I recently stumbled upon something new that peaked my interest, indie animation. Apparently there is a huge sub category of animation where smaller studios have been putting together pilot episodes of animation projects, and it’s not just something you’d see as a school project. These episodes are doing the full process of going from storyboarding to studio voice overs, and with today’s technology they actually come out pretty cool.
Important: I would like to start this post by simply stating any project in this series is not affiliated with Tribe Studio Comics in any way. We are indie creators that simply love the art of creating, and we wanted to use our platform to highlight people like us.
We created this new series that will hopefully bring light to fellow indie creators, and projects that we personally enjoy. When discussing this with Joe, he actually agreed and said there are a lot of small projects he wishes would get a little more audience. So off we go, exploring the world of indie art and finding out some really cool new projects. If you have one you’d like highlighted, feel free to send it to us on any of our social platforms!
The Art of Murder animation series is a recent one that really got me hooked. The pilot episode does a fascinating job of bringing 2D characters to life, but exploring many different fandoms in one packed pilot episode. Everything from Disney princesses to video games, and even anime, are all inspirations.
But it’s not just about the visuals. The characters are well-developed and relatable, making it easy to invest in their stories. Each character takes on a dynamic unique personality, and even the world itself spreads a few nods to classic animation. The story itself does a great job of exploring the dynamics of these characters, while exploring typical tropes of animated films.
I think this series has a ton of potential because of the vast layers it can peel open and explore, but the creators behind the pages are insanely talented. Every frame of the pilot episode had me laughing or intrigued, and the voice acting was again extremely superb. You can see the inspirational takes, but they don’t put half their effort into bringing it to life. And ultimately I thought it was a good start for this series considering the entire plot of the episode is characters that someone drew coming to life, and exploring their arc’s of their creator.
The original episode was scheduled to release in 2022, and then delayed before finally releasing in December of last year. Creativity takes time, we get it. Check it out below and then head to their official website to show some support.
